A Romantic Valentine’s Escape
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and if you want to give your other half the romantic treat they deserve, you need to start planning as soon as possible. If you’ve already booked a romantic getaway to one of our beautiful Norfolk cottages, you’ll find a wealth of wonderful activities and adventures on your doorstep.
Here are a few of our favourites to get you started.
Star Gazing
What could be more romantic than snuggling up under a blanket with the love of your life and gazing up at some stars this Valentine’s Day? Luckily for those visiting Norfolk, the county is home to some of the most pristine skies in England.
Norwich Astronomy Society runs regular star gazing events or you can head over to Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden for one of their fantastic star gazing events called Star Night.
If that doesn’t persuade you then why not grab a picnic blanket and a bottle of wine and head out into the garden of your holiday cottage for an effortlessly romantic evening.
Boat Hire
The beautiful Norfolk Broads are criss-crossed by mile upon mile of navigable waterways. If you’re planning a romantic weekend away with your other half, why not rent a boat and spend a day out on the water admiring the beautiful scenery?
Self-drive boats are available to rent by the hour or for the full day from Herbert Woods and don’t forget as a Broads Escapes customer you’re entitled to a 25% discount off day boats. There are some great routes to follow on the Norfolk Broads and plenty of cosy waterside pubs where you can stop for a tasty lunch. Alternatively, pack yourselves a picnic and enjoy an al fresco meal on the deck of your boat.
Walking
If you’d rather keep your feet on dry land, there are plenty of footpaths and cycle paths to explore across the area. Strap on those walking boots and explore the Broads, the coastal areas and the fields and woodlands that surround the county’s pretty towns and villages. Most routes are well sign posted so you shouldn’t have any problems navigating your way through the countryside.
After an invigorating walk, there’s nothing like stopping for a bowl of warming soup, or a cup of tea and a piece of cake, you’ll have earned it after all! There are lots of tea rooms and cafés to enjoy a delicious lunch or tea. We can recommend Bridgestones of Potter Heigham for their delicious cakes! See our page on ideas for more ideas on where to go for afternoon tea.
Pubs and Restaurants
A delicious meal in a welcoming Norfolk pub or restaurant is the perfect way to finish off your romantic day out. There are lots of excellent pubs all across the county, so there’s guaranteed to be a cosy local near your holiday cottage.
Here’s a few recommendations:
- The Swan Inn at Horning
- Norfolk Mead at Coltishall
- The Boat House at Ormesby
- The Mermaids Slipper at Stalham
- The Recruiting Sergeant at Coltishall
Norwich, and many of the larger towns in the area are also home to a great choice of restaurants, offering you the perfect opportunity to sample some tasty local produce.
Of course you don’t have to go out at all, you might prefer to cook something in your cottage and stay in and cosy up.
Whatever you decide to do over Valentine’s weekend, there are lots of ideas and ways for you to enjoy the Broads.
And don’t forget the bubbly, flowers and chocolate!
If you’re yet to book your romantic Valentine’s escape, don’t worry, you still have time to plan something special for your other half.
